Chris D. Plant, Jr. was born on July 17, 1987, in the historic town of White Castle, Louisiana. From an early age, he demonstrated a deep-rooted faith in God and a profound passion for music—two gifts that would come to shape his life, ministry, and calling in significant ways.

Pastor Plant is a devoted man of God whose life has been consistently guided by faith, service, and obedience to the call of Christ. His spiritual journey led him into worship leadership, where he faithfully served as Minister of Music for more than 25 years. He has held this role at notable congregations including First Baptist Church of Paradise, Louisiana, and Greater Sixty Aid Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, where his musical leadership helped cultivate worship experiences marked by unity, reverence, and spiritual depth.

 

Pastor Plant is currently a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church Inner City in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, under the leadership of Pastor Ricardo Handy, Sr., where he continues to grow spiritually and remain actively engaged in a vibrant faith community committed to discipleship and social impact.

 

In addition to his pastoral calling, Pastor Plant is deeply committed to scholarship and ethical leadership. He is a senior at Louisiana State University, where he is pursuing a double major in Philosophy and Liberal Arts with a concentration in Religious Studies. His academic focus reflects his passion for examining the intersections of faith, ethics, theology, and the human experience. He is also a proud member of the Louisiana State University Ethics Bowl Team, demonstrating his commitment to moral reasoning, dialogue, and public ethical engagement.

 

Pastor Plant maintains active membership and involvement in several respected professional, civic, and faith-based organizations, including:

·         National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

·         Louisiana State Missionary Baptist Convention

·         United Education Association of Alexandria, Louisiana

·         Louisiana State Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association

·         100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge

These affiliations reflect his commitment to denominational service, community leadership, professional ethics, mentorship, and civic responsibility.

 

On March 17, 2019, Pastor Plant was elected Pastor of New Bethel Community Baptist Church of Alexandria, Louisiana, further affirming his call to pastoral leadership and community ministry. Under his leadership, he has emphasized biblical preaching, spiritual formation, community outreach, and compassionate pastoral care.

Looking ahead, Pastor Plant plans to continue his theological education at Yale University Divinity School, where he intends to pursue a Master of Divinity degree, followed by doctoral studies in theology. His academic aspirations are grounded in a desire to serve the Church with intellectual rigor, pastoral wisdom, and faithfulness to Scripture.

 

Beyond ministry and scholarship, Pastor Plant is a devoted husband and family man. He is married to Shena’ Rambo Plant of Alexandria, Louisiana, and together they share a loving and blended family. He is the proud father of Ashton and Hayleigh Plant, and a dedicated bonus father to Braxtyn and Brailyn Dumas, whom he loves dearly. Their home is also blessed by their Goldendoodle, Yezzy, who is a cherished part of the family.

 

Throughout his life and ministry, Pastor Chris D. Plant, Jr. has been shaped by the mentorship and spiritual guidance of respected pastors and leaders, including Dr. Leo D. Cyrus, Pastor Elvin Lacey, Dr. F. D. Sampson, and Grand Pastor Andrew Richardson. Their influence has helped mold his pastoral identity, theological depth, and servant leadership.

 

Pastor Plant’s life stands as a testimony to the transformative power of faith, education, music, community engagement, and love. His unwavering commitment to God, family, and service continues to make him a respected and trusted leader within the Church and the broader Louisiana community.
